Mixed fortunes for Eswatini stars in Munhumutapa Challenge Cup

Eswatini international stars endured mixed fortunes in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup quarterfinals held over the weekend.

Kwakhe’s Thwala Scotland FC sneaked into the semifinals of the prestigious knockout tournament with a 5-4 win on penalties over Bulawayo Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Hardrock FC were knocked out of the cup competition by youthful side Herentals by 6-5.

Herentals will now take on Scotland FC in the semifinals on a date still to be announced by the Zimbabwe Football Association ZIFA).

Hardrock FC are home to five international players such as Neliswa ‘Tiger’Dlamini, Yekisizwe Khumalo, Thubelihle Mavuso and Sambulo ‘Masoso Simelane.

Scottland FC recently booted back-to-back MTN Premier League champions Nsingizini Hotspurs out of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.

Eswatini is having six players in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer league which include Newman Philiso of Agama FC.

The Munhumutapa Challenge Cup is a flagship national knockout competition in Zimbabwean football, launched with a total sponsorship package of $5 million per season.

The tournament aims to reshape the domestic game through investment, inclusion, and the power of football to unite and uplift.
