Home Affairs revenue jumps 30% to E18.2m
…. Permits, travel documents and citizenship services drive E4.2m increase
The Ministry of Home Affairs collected E18.18 million in revenue during the second quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, an increase of E4.24 million or 30.42 per cent compared with the first quarter, according to its latest report to Parliament.
The Ministry collected E18,179,425 between July and September 2026, up from E13,939,091 in the preceding quarter, with permits, travel documents, citizenship services and national identity documents contributing to the improvement.
Permits remained the Ministry’s biggest source of revenue, generating E11.51 million during the quarter compared with E9.17 million in the first quarter. This represented an increase of E2.35 million, or 25.60 per cent.
Revenue from travel documents recorded one of the strongest increases, rising from E1.44 million to E2.67 million, an improvement of E1.23 million or 85.78 per cent.
Citizenship-related revenue also increased significantly, rising from E864,000 in the first quarter to E1.45 million in the second quarter. This represented growth of E588,000, or 68.06 per cent.
Collections from national identity documents increased by 48.85 per cent, from E733,000 to E1.09 million, while revenue from birth, marriage and death services rose by 7.96 per cent.
The Ministry’s report attributed the overall improvement to stronger collections from permits, travel documents, citizenship services and national identity documents.
However, the performance was not uniform across all revenue streams. International passport revenue declined from E1.05 million to E402,100, while visa revenue fell from E616,000 to E185,500.
Despite these declines, the overall increase in collections points to the important contribution of the Ministry’s immigration and civil registration services to public revenue.
The Ministry said it remained committed to sound financial management and the efficient, effective and accountable use of public resources.
