The US Embassy has issued a statement to refute statements made by PPA leaders after the delivery of the petition on Friday.
The Embassy statement says “False statements have appeared in media with regard to the U.S. Embassy’s position on the political situation in Eswatini and comments by speakers at the Oct. 01 march purporting to represent the U.S. government were false.
Misinformation is divisive, destructive & dangerous.” Social media users have expressed confusion and disappointment about the meaning of the statement because they were told a lot of promises attributable to the Ambassador on Friday. The Embassy has refuted same to be untrue. The simple message of caution from the US Embassy to all is that misinformation is dangerous, divisive and does not help to resolve issues or serve the interests of the people of Eswatini.
The U.S. Embassy Eswatini has also issued a statement cautioning against the illegal use of U.S Government symbols to circulate false information under the name of the U.S. Embassy.
