COVID-19 placed a lot of restrictions on Spots which was the main source of entertainment for Emaswati. MTN Eswatini CEO Wandile Mntjali said “ With the relaxation of Covid-19 guidelines all soccer spectators need to be fully vaccinated to access soccer stadiums. MTN’ s considered view is that this is not an impediment . But soccer fans should embrace it as an opportunity that Government has extended to us with an incentive of going out to watch the game loved by billions”.
The Eswatini Football Association is anxious to have the number of fans allowed increased. Eswatini Football Association President Peter Simelane said “as football we are committed to do our part, firstly in continuing to collaborate with Government to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 and secondly to enlist more of the football population to vaccinate to encourage Government to increase the current number in fans.”
The new one year E6 000 000 sponsorship by MTN covers both Premier League and National First Division. Premier League of Eswatini Chairman Mark Charmichael thanked MTN Eswatini for the support.
