South African Anglican Bishop and Theologian Desmond Tutu dies at the age of 90

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Mpilo Tutu dies at the age of 90. Tutu died of prostate cancer on Sunday 26 December 2021 in Cape Town.

The Republic of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa and other Politicians paid their tribute. President Ramaphosa said: “The passing of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans who have bequeathed us a liberated South Africa.”

The president has also announced that there will be a period of mourning in which the South African national flag will fly at half-mast at all flag stations in Honour of the Archbishop.
