A man is reportedly fighting for his life in the hospital after three men assaulted him. Sakhile Simelane was last Friday assaulted with fists and bush knives at Fonteyn and he sustained severe injuries.
The suspects Thamsanca Dlamini (27) of Fonteyn, Eugene Mahlalela (27) and Mayibongwe Shongwe (27) of Mahwalala allegedly acted jointly in furtherance of a common purpose and intentionally and unlawfully assaulted Simelane with kicks, fists, bush knives and poured water on him and in the process inflicted near-fatal wounds on his body.
The bone of contention is yet to be established in court. The trio is facing an attempted murder charge which could likely turn into a murder charge in the event Simelane succumbs to the injuries. They were remanded back to police custody pending commitment to the High Court.
