Mxolisi Mkhontfo is January’s MTN League player of the month

By Ntokozo Magongo

After propelling his side to the top of the table in the MTN Premier League, Green Mamba’s Mxolisi Mkhontfo has been recognised as the best player for January.

He took home the E6 000 cheque and a trophy alongside MTN National First Division Milling Hotspurs striker Bandile Shongwe who scored three braces in three games to deserve the E2 000 cheque and a trophy.

The two winners were awarded on Thursday by MTN Brand, Communications and Sponsorship Manager Lando Dlamini with Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Brand and Marketing Manager Lindelwa ‘Malindi’ Dlamini.

Mkhontfo scored three goals in January, a brace in the 3-0 win over Mbabane Highlanders and one in the 3-1 win over Nsingizini Hotspurs.

Mkhontfo thanked his colleagues for the hard work they apply at training and during games. He dedicated winning the award to the team.

“I am happy that we picked form at the right time, just when the second round started and that is important for the club when you want to challenge for the league. The technical bench is clear from our training session which way they want us to head,” he said.

Meanwhile, Milling Hotspurs forward Bandile Shongwe said it was all God’s work and the support he got from his teammates. The 25-year-old scored braces against Kappa Kappa, Hlathikhulu Tycoons and Illovo while he netted each goal against Shooting Stars and Black Swallows.

“This is the beginning. I have all along dreamed of winning such an award and I believe that if I continue to work hard, I will continue winning more awards,” he said.
