New SACU Executive Secretary visits Eswatini

The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Council of Ministers has appointed Thabo David Khasipe as the Executive Secretary of SACU from February 1, 2023.

This appointment comes at a time when the Kingdom of Eswatini is chairing all the SACU Institutions. The purpose of SACU is to promote economic regional integration in the Member States which are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa.

The term of the Executive Secretary is five years. The Executive Secretary visited the Kingdom of Eswatini to introduce himself and also discuss key priority areas of the SACU agenda for effective and strategic implementation of the SACU Strategic Plan.

The Executive Secretary, accompanied by Kungo Mabogo, Communications Manager and Abed Iyambo, Senior Office Manager were honoured to have met His Majesty King Mswati III, the Prime Minister, DPM, Minister of Finance and other key stakeholders.

The key message of the meetings was to ensure that the SACU vision which is, “an economic community with equitable and sustainable development, dedicated to the welfare of its people for a common future” is reinforced.
