Man on crutches nabbed with 28k worth of dagga

By Khulile Thwala

Police in Tonga have arrested a 61-year-old liSwati male travelling by kombi from Magudu to Malelane in Mpumalanga after finding three plastic bags of dagga worth almost E28 000.

Mpumalanga Province South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala in a press statement confirmed that police in Tonga while conducting a search and seizure operation stopped a kombi which the elderly liSwati male was travelling in.

“Police who were busy with stop and search duties opened a bag with three black plastic bags containing compressed dagga estimated at about R28 000 in street value. The elderly man confirmed that the bag belonged to him and he was en route to Daveyton in Gauteng,” said Mohlala.

Mohlala said the man was arrested for dealing in dagga and for contravention of the Immigration Act after it was discovered that he did not have legal documents to be in South Africa. The SAPS have therefore collaborated with the SA Ministry of Home Affairs on the investigation.

In an additional report, IOL News published that the liSwati man appeared before Nkomazi Magistrate on Friday.
