11 medals for Swim Lab in Mozambique

By Ntokozo Magongo

It was raining medals for Swim Lab swimmers again in Mozambique as they conquered the two-day Tuberous International gala.

The club won 11 medals with Hayley Hoy taking centre stage with three gold medals and two silver medals. The club was represented by nine swimmers in the event.

The other shining stars were Simanga Dlamini who won two silver medals and three bronze medals and Siwakhile Dlamini who won one silver medal and one bronze medal.

A fortnight ago they brought home 30 medals from another gala in Mozambique. Swim Lab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi said he was proud of the team.

He said the swimmers were working hard and competing against others from outside the country and that will benefit them with experience.

“Again they have made not just only me proud but the whole nation. We sent a very small team of 9 swimmers. We missed our top swimmers like Luca Fraser, Tiano Fraser, Damien Desousa, Raya Young just to mention a few. I’m sure we would have brought back more than 30 medals. We also had to leave before the competition finished due to the bad roads as we were avoiding travelling at night,” he said.

The Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) will host the national championships next week and Swim Lab is among the club set t dominate the six days event.
