By Ntokozo Magongo

The best in sports in the country will be known on Wednesday when they are awarded during the Eswatini National Sports Awards.

There will be nine winners on the day including the outstanding sportsman and sportswoman. The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) which is hosting the awards decided to keep the nominees a secret.

The awards ceremony will be held Wednesday at the Happy Valley Hotel, starting at noon where the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga is expected to be among the guests.

ESRC Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane said arrangements for the event were now at an advanced stage. He said the event was not open to the public like before but only guests and the media are invited.

“We are happy that finally the day is here and those who have been excelling in the past year will be awarded for their hard work. It is unfortunate that these are not full awards like in the past years when the event was open to the public and over 20 were awarded. This time around only nine will be awarded including the last added award being the outstanding sports association,” he said.

The nine categories to be awarded;

• Outstanding Senior Sportsman
• Outstanding Senior Sportswoman
• Outstanding Junior Sportsman
• Outstanding Junior Sportswoman
• Outstanding Sportsman with a Disability
• Outstanding Sportswoman with a Disability
• Outstanding Sports Coach
• Outstanding Sports Team
*Outstanding sports association
