Boxer Veliswa Magaya stands to earn up to E1.8 million if she wins a gold medal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India.
Magaya is the only boxer that will be representing the country in the championships that run from March 16 to 26. She left the country on Sunday alongside the Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President Webster Lukhele and Coach Maxwell Ngwenya.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) announced lucrative prizes to be won by medallists during the event. A gold medallist will take home $100 000 which is equivalent to about E1.8 million while silver medallists will get $50 000 which is about (E900 000) and the bronze medallists will receive $25 000 which is about (E450 000).

EBA Secretary Nathi Dlamini said Magaya will be competing in the under 50kg division.
“She is a youth silver medallist and national champion. She is a very dedicated boxer and as EBA, we hope and believe that she will do her best while in India,” he said.
The 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be the 13th edition of the championships. The overall prize fund is $2.4 million (about E40 million).
