Transformer explosion scares voters at Nkwalini

A transformer explosion disturbed the voting process at Nkwalini, under Mbabane East in the Hhohho region.

It was around 2 p.m. when the transformer mounted just at the entrance of the polling station exploded. Some voters ran for cover while others screamed as huge flames emanated from the transformer.

Bongani Mhlanga, one of the eyewitnesses said he is grateful that the explosion did not hurt anyone. He said there were people near the electricity pole.

“We hope EEC will fix the post-storm electricity effects quickly,” said Mhlanga.



The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) attended to the situation with urgency. Notably, the EEC is working on restoring power in all affected areas.

This comes after Friday night’s storm which wreaked havoc throughout the country.

On Saturday morning, the EEC released a statement urging the nation to avoid contact with fallen poles.
