Honouring excellency.
The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs has splashed E27 000 on the three Mandela African Cup boxing medalists.

The presentation saw the female duo of Veliswa Magaya and Temalangeni Dlamini taking home E10 000 each on Wednesday at the Ministry of Sports offices in Mbabane.

The female won bronze medals during the inaugural continental Cup recently held at the Durban International Convention Centre.

Male boxer Nhlanhla Dlamini took home E7 000 after winning a bronze in the recently ended International Boxing Association (IBA) sanctioned boxing spectacle.

Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima congratulated the three boxers.
“I want to thank and congratulate you, on behalf of the Government and the entire sporting fraternity.

Your performances, we believe, have already set the tone for this new financial year, 2024/25. In the previous financial year, our athletes amassed 28 medals in international competitions, with 16 of them gold.

It is therefore, pleasing to see you bring back three medals within the first three weeks of the new year, something which we believe bodes well for the future,” he said.

Nzima further applauded Veliswa and Temalangeni Dlamini for representing women through their heroics.
We are committed to expanding the participation of more women and girls in local sport and such achievements by you will help to accelerate this goal,”.

The minister further commended the entire team for their gallant display in the tournament and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to see the country achieve a podium finish on the international scene.

eanwhile, Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA)President Webster Lukhele thanked the government for the kind gesture.

“We are grateful for the incentive from the Government which will go a long towards motivating the boxers to make the country during international assignments.

We would like to thank the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council for supporting all our activities and we appeal for support from the business community,” he said.
