In a significant development for rural communities, the Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, has revealed that approved Rural Development Fund (RDF) projects valued at over E0.5 billion have been awaiting funding in the past financial year 2024/25.
Minister Dlamini emphasized the importance of addressing this backlog and ensuring that these crucial projects receive the necessary funding to benefit rural areas across the country.
During a recent Sessional Committee meeting with the Portfolio Committee, Minister Dlamini confirmed that the Ministry has been in discussions with the Minister of Finance to expedite the allocation of funds for the outstanding RDF projects.
According to Minister Dlamini, with an allocation of over E1.7 million designated for the RDF in this year’s National Budget, the aim is to address both the backlog from the previous year and fund new project applications in the current financial year.

“The approved RDF projects worth E0.5 billion from the past financial year are a top priority for us,” stated Minister Dlamini.
“We have been actively engaging with the Minister of Finance to ensure that the necessary funding is allocated for these projects in the current financial year.
Additionally, we are committed to supporting the current year project applications with the over E1.7 million allocated to the RDF in this year’s National Budget.”
The RDF plays a crucial role in supporting rural development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, livelihoods, and overall quality of life in rural communities.
