Despite the freezing knuckle knuckle-cracking cold, the second leg of the Umhlanga Reed Dance was a spectacular success.

Having taken place at Mbangweni Royal Residence in the Shiselweni Residence, the festival saw over 10,000 Imbali brave the cold and entice Their Majesties with dances.

Amid the wet and chilly conditions in Nhlangano, On Saturday Imbali showcased their unwavering dedication by converging in large numbers to present their revered reeds before the royal presence at Mbangweni Royal Residence.

The local maidens were creatively adorned in their traditional attire, with a distinct integration of cultural elements that resonate across borders, attracting participants from various countries, notably South Africa.

The procession commenced with the maidens gracefully offering their reeds in a ceremonial display of respect and tradition.

Following this solemn act, the atmosphere erupted with vibrant energy as the spirited Imbali maidens, in unison, proceeded to the designated arena, where the air resonated with melodious songs and rhythmic dances echoing through the valley.

Anticipation mounted for the next day which was Sunday to mark the pinnacle of the festivities where the Imbali maidens adorned themselves in elaborate, colourful traditional regalia, symbolising the richness and diversity of their heritage.

With great pomp and splendour, they showcased their deft dancing skills before Their Majesties, embodying grace, elegance, and a profound sense of cultural pride.

Excitement filled the air as His Majesty King Mswati III arrived at Mbangweni, he was in the company of Emakhosikati and Emazinyane.

It was then that, Imbali captivated the audience as they performed ‘Kuhlehla’ before their Majesties this was before the intricate solo dances undertaken by Imbali leaders and Emanzinyane.

The event was not without the presence of notable dignitaries, which included the Ambassador of Palestine, theAmbassador of Taiwan and a United Nations representative.
