Over six countries for Next Generation championships

Over six African nations will be represented at the 2026 Next Generation Academy Taekwondo Championships.

The countries include Kenya, South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, among whom will be fighting for honours in the annual international tournament.

The taekwondo spectacle will take place on Saturday at Matsapha UNESWA Sports Emporium.

The tournament coordinator, Sizwe Mabuza, confirmed the latest news when reached for comment.

“We are having 500 participants from over six countries and are looking forward to an exciting event,” he said.

He further said the games will enhance the development of the sport in the region.

“In our bid to help Taekwondo in our region grow stronger, we are committed to bringing together Taekwondo clubs/academies in competition.

The aim is to promote friendship, unity and ideas amongst athletes and coaches,” he said.

The internationally recognised coach further said the event will enhance the development of the sport in the country.

“This championship also aims to strengthen independent development academies and foster collaboration amongst clubs in the region.

Being the 5th edition, this event comes very special as a celebration of half a decade of producing new champions and strong representatives from all AUSC Region 5 countries,” he said.
