DPM warns against building homes close to river banks

By Bahle Gama

Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku is advising emaSwati to refrain from building their homes closer to river banks in case of floods and cyclones.

Masuku was speaking during a press conference at the DPM’s offices where he emphasised the importance of people building their homes far from rivers and dams.

“The nation is reminded to always ensure that building structures or homes closer to river banks should be avoided at all times. Building homes downstream of dam structures should be always avoided as well,” said Masuku.

He further stated that building safe and or resilient structures is the way to go, “and we encourage and plead with emaSwati that they do so because in the event the cyclone hits the country, it will be deadly to occupants and structures will not survive the cyclone.”
