Mozambique conquers Eclipse Basketball tournament

Mozambique conquered the 2026 Eclipse Investment Eswatini international winter basketball tournament.

Botanificadas and Mohotas emerged victorious after beating Vixens and Black Rhinos, respectively, walking away with E20 000 each in the finals held at UNESWA Emporium in Matsapha on Sunday.

Botanificadas pip their Zimbabwean opponents, Vixens (Mozambique), 60-55, while Mohotas get the better of Black Rhinos 63-60 in the tightly contested men’s finals.

The games were graced by high-ranking officials, including Prime minister Rusell Mmmiso Dlamini, Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, Minister for Education and Training Owen Nxumalo.

Other senior officials included Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association President Adam ‘Bomber Mthethwa and Matsapha Town Council Mayor Lindiwe Dlamini, among others.

The two finalists got the better of two local sides in the semifinals, Superstars and Dunkylane.

The ladies’ team captain Carla da Silva said they are happy with their success.

“ I am proud of the girls for their spirited performances on the day, and we managed to shrug off the challenge from the opposition.

We will certainly come back next year to defend our crown and thank Basketball Eswatini for inviting us to the tournament,” she said.

The male champions’ skipper Joao Gundere dedicated their success to their teammates.

“This success is a result of hard work from the entire team throughout the tournament. We will continue pushing in events of this nature,” he said.
