SADC salutes Eswatini on 58th independence anniversary

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has congratulated the Kingdom of Eswatini on attaining 58 years of independence, commending the country’s continued contribution to regional integration, peace, stability and sustainable development.

In a message marking Eswatini’s Independence Anniversary on Sunday, 6 September 2026, SADC extended its warmest congratulations to His Majesty King Mswati III, the Government and the people of Eswatini.

The regional bloc said Eswatini, as one of the founding member states of SADC, continues to play an important role in advancing the region’s integration and development agenda.

The message also recognised the country’s contribution to efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability across Southern Africa.

SADC said the anniversary marked an important milestone in Eswatini’s history, commemorating the country’s attainment of independence from Britain on 6 September 1968.

The regional organisation conveyed its best wishes to King Mswati III, who is the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, as well as to the people of Eswatini.

It wished the Kingdom continued peace, progress and prosperity as it advances its national development objectives within the broader regional integration agenda.

The message comes as Eswatini joins other SADC member states in strengthening regional cooperation in areas including economic integration, peace and security and sustainable development.

SADC concluded its message with a celebration of the Kingdom’s independence, extending its greetings to emaSwati on the occasion of the 58th anniversary.

“Halala Eswatini!” the regional bloc said.
