The number of Imbali attending the second leg of Umhlanga 2026 has increased significantly, with thousands of young women gathered at Mbangweni Royal Residence in the Shiselweni Region for the annual cultural ceremony.
Imbali from different chiefdoms across Eswatini have arrived at Mbangweni to participate in the proceedings, contributing to the growing number of young women taking part in this year’s ceremony.
Indvuna Hlangabeza said the increase in attendance was noticeable compared with previous years, describing the growth as a positive development for Umhlanga. 
He said the growing participation demonstrated that young women remained committed to taking part in the national cultural event and contributing to the preservation of Eswatini’s cultural heritage.
“The number of Imbali has grown significantly compared with previous years, and this is a positive development for Umhlanga,” Hlangabeza said.
He said the presence of Imbali from different parts of the country was also important in ensuring that cultural practices continued to be passed from one generation to another.
The second leg of Umhlanga is being held at Mbangweni Royal Residence following the first leg at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. Imbali from different communities have brought their own reeds as they participate in the proceedings leading up to the main activities.
The gathering has also brought together young women from different chiefdoms, giving them an opportunity to participate in the same national cultural programme.
Hlangabeza said the continued participation of Imbali was significant because young women played an important role in keeping cultural traditions alive.
