The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Community Safety Unit continues to strengthen its engagement with communities and various stakeholders as part of efforts to raise awareness about crime prevention and personal safety.
On September 21, the Big Bend Police Community Safety Unit, together with officers from the Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, conducted a community engagement session with workers from IFA Engineering.
The engagement focused on several issues affecting communities, including gangsterism, domestic violence, sexual offences, positive parenting and general crime prevention. 
The officers used the session to educate employees on ways of identifying and preventing criminal activities, while also encouraging stronger relationships between the police and the communities they serve.
The discussions on domestic violence and sexual offences also sought to promote awareness of the different forms of abuse and the importance of reporting cases to the relevant authorities.
Positive parenting was another key area addressed during the engagement, with the police emphasising the role parents and guardians can play in guiding children and preventing them from becoming involved in criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the Lobamba Police Community Safety Unit conducted a separate engagement with vendors and shop assistants on the same day.
The Lobamba session focused on customer care, fraud prevention, scams and personal safety, with the engagement coming ahead of Customer Week, which is scheduled to begin in the coming days.
The police sought to equip vendors and shop assistants with information that could help them identify fraudulent activities and scams while ensuring their own safety and that of their customers.
The engagements form part of the police’s continued efforts to take crime prevention awareness beyond traditional policing and directly into workplaces and communities.
Through such engagements, the Community Safety Unit continues to work with members of the public and other stakeholders to promote awareness, encourage crime reporting and strengthen cooperation between communities and law enforcement.
