After four people died in one Malvern house overnight, another fatality was recorded in Overport. The tragedy has worsened, with two young children now found in the wreckage of a Queensburgh home. Weather warnings for South Africa on Tuesday 23 April
The extreme quantities of rain have also lead to numerous mudslides in and around the municipality. Several key roads in eThekwini have been blocked or disrupted by the adverse conditions. A weather warning remains in place until 16:00 on Tuesday. In fact, flash floods and torrential downpours are on course to spread across South Africa:
Heavy rain leading to localized flash flooding is expected in the following places until 23:00 on Tuesday:
- Western half of the Free State.
- Eastern half of the Northern Cape.
- Beaufort West Municipality of the Western Cape.
For those of you in touch with the Cape’s fight against the drought, you’ll know Beaufort West has been battling to keep its taps running in the Karoo. The heavy rain may be a cause of disaster elsewhere, but this deluge could at least bring some relief to the local residents.
