Kingdom seeks Taiwanese investment in 1,000MW energy drive

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called on Taiwanese energy companies to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom as the country accelerates efforts to expand electricity generation capacity to support industrialisation and economic growth.

Dlamini made the call during his tour of energy projects in Tainan, Taiwan, where he engaged with companies and industry players involved in renewable energy, solar generation, battery storage and other technologies aimed at improving energy reliability.

The Prime Minister said Eswatini was undertaking an ambitious programme to significantly increase its energy generation capacity, with a particular focus on attracting strategic investors capable of developing large-scale projects.

He said the government was targeting energy projects capable of generating at least 100 megawatts each, as part of a broader objective to add more than 1,000 megawatts of generation capacity.

“We are seeking strategic investors in the energy sector, with a target of developing projects capable of generating a minimum of 100 megawatts each,” Dlamini said.

He explained that the expansion of generation capacity was critical to the country’s industrialisation ambitions, particularly as Eswatini seeks to establish new industries and attract investments that require a stable and reliable electricity supply.

“Our broader national objective is to exceed 1,000 megawatts of additional generation capacity to provide reliable baseload power for the industries we are establishing and to secure our country’s long-term energy future,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the government viewed Taiwan’s experience in renewable energy as particularly relevant to Eswatini’s energy ambitions.

He highlighted Taiwan’s progress in deploying advanced solar generation, battery energy storage systems and other technologies designed to ensure the stability and reliability of renewable electricity.

Dlamini said the visit to Tainan was therefore intended not only to learn from Taiwan’s experience but also to identify potential areas of cooperation and investment that could be replicated or adapted to Eswatini’s circumstances.

“We have been greatly encouraged by Taiwan’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy,

particularly in the deployment of advanced solar generation, battery storage systems, and innovative technologies that ensure the stability and reliability of green energy,” he said.

The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to Taiwanese companies to visit Eswatini and assess investment opportunities within the country.

He said direct engagement between Taiwanese companies and Eswatini would help investors gain a better understanding of the opportunities available in the Kingdom, particularly within the energy sector.

“It is for this reason that we have come to Tainan – to learn from your success, to exchange ideas, and, most importantly,

to extend a cordial invitation for your company to visit the Kingdom of Eswatini and explore the investment opportunities that await,” Dlamini said.
