The Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has expressed heartfelt congratulations on behalf of His Majesty’s Government to His Majesty King Mswati III for his recent appointment as Deputy Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

This prestigious role, according to the PM, not only highlights the King’s leadership capabilities but also sets the stage for his upcoming position as the incoming Chairperson of the Troika next year.

Dlamini remarked, “This esteemed role heralds His Majesty’s upcoming position as the incoming Chairperson of the Troika next year, further underscoring his enduring commitment to regional stability and peace.

” His statement reflects the government’s recognition of the King’s pivotal role in promoting peace and security within the Southern African region.

The Prime Minister emphasised that King Mswati III’s leadership in advancing Africa’s peace and security agenda is both historic and exemplary.

“His visionary interventions during that period remain a testament to his dedication to fostering peace and security across the continent,” Dlamini noted, referring to the King’s previous tenure as Troika Chairperson from 2010 to 2011.

His Majesty’s proactive measures during this time were instrumental in addressing various regional conflicts and fostering dialogue among member states.

This recent appointment aligns with Eswatini’s recent election as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council, where it will represent the Southern Africa region.

Dlamini pointed out that this election further affirms the nation’s pivotal role as a champion of peace and security in Africa. “Once again, we congratulate His Majesty the King on this well-deserved recognition of his wise and noble leadership, which continues to inspire both the region and the global community,” he stated.

“His Majesty’s leadership is a beacon of hope for many, and we are proud to support his initiatives that aim to strengthen ties among African nations,” he added.

The Mandate of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security is to provide a foundation of Peace and Stability in the SADC Region as a prerequisite for the achievement of SADC objectives of socio-economic development, poverty eradication, and regional integration, as espoused in the SADC Vision 2050 and the RISDP 2020-2030.
