Train-Bus Collision in Central Mexico Leaves 10 Dead, 61 Injured
ATLACOMULCO, Mexico — At least 10 people were killed and 61 others injured on Sunday when a freight train collided with a double-decker passenger bus in central Mexico, authorities said.
The crash occurred in an industrial zone along the highway between Atlacomulco, about 115 kilometers northwest of Mexico City, and Maravatío in neighboring Michoacán state. Officials said seven women and three men were among the dead.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City de México, the railway operator, said the bus appeared to have attempted to cross the tracks in front of the moving train. The company expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged drivers to observe road signs and stop orders at rail crossings.
Images from the scene showed the bus’s upper deck severely crushed, its metal frame twisted by the impact. Emergency crews cordoned off the site as rescue efforts continued.
The bus operator, Herradura de Plata, has not commented publicly on the incident.
Buses remain a primary means of passenger transport across Mexico, where freight rail lines are widespread but passenger train service is limited. President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government has pledged to significantly expand the passenger rail network in coming years to connect much of northern and central Mexico.
