The community of Mkhulamini was shattered in the early hours of March 22 when a violent confrontation escalated, resulting in the death of a man during a bizarre attack. According to Deputy Police Information and Communication Officer, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Nosipho Mnguni, the incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. when a 40-year-old local man was violently assaulted by an unidentified assailant, believed to be in his 30s.

Initial reports suggest that the two men engaged in a physical struggle, with the older man ultimately overpowering his attacker. Tragically, the assailant was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at the scene. The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, and police are actively investigating the case.

ASP Mnguni urged the community to remain calm as the REPS work to piece together the details of the incident. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to understand what led to this confrontation and the subsequent loss of life,” she stated. “We appeal to anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist us in our inquiries.”

Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing commotion and raised voices before the situation escalated into violence. Community members expressed shock at the tragic events that unfolded in their neighbourhood. “It’s heartbreaking to hear that someone lost their life here. We must all work together to ensure that our community remains safe,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

The police have confirmed that no formal charges have been laid at this time, as they continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The identity of the deceased assailant has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.

It should be noted that as the investigation unfolds, the Manzini Police are reminding citizens to prioritize safety and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
