Lyrikal Busta’s latest single, “Mtukulu,” has rapidly become a standout hit, surpassing 80,000 streams on Spotify and YouTube combined within just three months of its release.
Released on September 26, 2025, “Mtukulu” is a powerful collaboration with South African award-winning artist Intaba Yase Dubai. The single has attracted over 60,000 streams on Spotify alone, complemented by more than 20,000 streams on YouTube, underscoring its broad appeal across digital platforms.
The song’s title, which translates to “grandchild” in SiSwati, reflects its deeply emotional and cultural narrative.
At its core, “Mtukulu” tells a touching story of an elderly man who repeatedly asks his grandson to play the song because it evokes cherished memories of the past.
Lyrikal Busta explained that the track explores themes of nostalgia, hope, and unity, making it both a heartfelt tribute and a dance anthem.
Its vibrant, upbeat rhythm is perfectly suited to festive celebrations, especially in December, when audiences are eager for energetic music to accompany their celebrations.

“It’s a happy and energetic anthem, and people will most definitely have something to dance to this December,” Lyrikal Busta noted.
Beyond its infectious beat, “Mtukulu” carries a profound cultural message. Lyrikal Busta intentionally crafted the song to resonate across generations, weaving a narrative that honours African heritage and identity.
The collaboration with Intaba Yase Dubai was a strategic choice aimed at fostering unity among Africans, particularly considering recent xenophobic tensions in the region.
“The aim was to create a song that would resonate with different age groups and tell a story of where we come from as African people. I had to feature Intaba Yase Dubai from South Africa to also convey a message of unity amongst Africans, especially in these times of xenophobic attacks,” he explained.
Musically, “Mtukulu” is a masterful fusion of Sofiatown’s soulful vibes and the infectious rhythms of Amapiano, a genre that has surged in popularity across Southern Africa.
The production was expertly handled by South African producer Skatl1 Beats, while engineering duties were managed by Sean Cast HQ, ensuring a polished sound that balances tradition with modernity.
Reflecting on the creative process, Lyrikal Busta described working with Intaba Yase Dubai as both enriching and inspiring.
The two artists previously collaborated on the track “365 Days,” which achieved significant success with over 1 million views on streaming platforms, setting high expectations for their new release.
“Working on the song was amazing as I got to learn more from renowned South African award-winning artist Intaba Yase Dubai,” Lyrikal Busta shared.
