Minister of Home Affairs, Princess Lindiwe, has officially announced that Monday, March 16, will be observed as a national holiday across the Kingdom.

This declaration is specifically intended to facilitate the conclusion of the Buganu Festival at Hlane and to allow for the formal release of the regiments.

The Minister explained that after three days of rigorous song, dance, and cultural tribute, the participants require a dedicated day to rest and transition back to their daily lives.

By declaring Monday a holiday, the government ensures that the thousands of men and women who form the regiments can depart from the royal residence in an orderly and safe manner without the pressure of immediate work or school obligations.

Princess Lindiwe emphasized that the holiday is a sign of respect for the hard work and dedication shown by the nation in upholding its customs.

She noted that the perfect splendour of the ceremony depends not just on the events of the weekend, but also on how the participants are treated afterward.

“We have declared this holiday so the regiment can be released properly and have time to recover from their traditional duties,” the Minister stated. Consequently, all government offices and public institutions will be closed on March 16 to honour this significant cultural conclusion.
