Celebrations marking the 40-year reign and 58th birthday of His Majesty King Mswati III were not only a display of national pride but also a moment of reflection on governance, unity and progress, as the Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini reaffirmed Parliament’s role under the King’s mandate.

Speaking during the jubilant event at Lobamba last Friday, the Senate President highlighted the significance of the “King in Parliament” concept, describing it as central to the country’s governance system.

She said Parliament derives its authority from His Majesty and is entrusted with the responsibility of assessing the living conditions of emaSwati, passing laws that protect the nation and ensuring all legislation is thoroughly scrutinised before implementation.

The Senate President used the occasion to express gratitude for the King’s leadership, particularly in advancing opportunities for women.

She noted that female participation across sectors had improved significantly, with women now making up about 29% per cent of Parliament, placing Eswatini ahead of several other countries.

“We are grateful to His Majesty, especially as women,” she said, adding that increased representation reflects growing inclusivity within national structures.

Emphasizing the role of women in leadership, she described their contribution as essential to building strong communities and a cohesive nation.

She further commended Parliament’s continued role in fostering peace and unity, noting that lawmakers remain guided by the principle of national cohesion.

“As Parliament, we lead the country mindful that we are one people—the Swazi nation, with a unique identity that sets us apart,” she said.

The celebrations, attended by thousands, combined cultural pride with reflections on the country’s journey under His Majesty’s reign, with leaders citing governance, unity and development as key pillars of the nation’s progress.
