Bandile Mnisi shines as UNDP Student Ambassador in global panel discussion
joined a global panel during the first of three public sessions taking place this week.
This series not only celebrates the achievements of UNDP Student Ambassadors but also highlights the vital role of UNDP Country Offices in nurturing young talent and fostering impactful youth-led initiatives.
Mnisi, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Food Science at the University of Eswatini, participated in the virtual session from the UNDP offices in Mbabane.
During this session, she had the privilege of meeting the Resident Representative, Henrik Franklin, who expressed his support for the Student Ambassadors Programme and its objectives.
The panel discussion, themed ‘My Journey as a UNDP Student Ambassador,’ featured Bandile alongside fellow ambassadors from various countries, each sharing their unique experiences and insights.

Mnisi’s reflections were particularly poignant, as she articulated the profound impact the programme has had on her understanding of sustainable development.
“As an Environmental Health student, my career path has always been rooted in sustainability and public wellbeing,” she explained.
“However, the Student Ambassadors Programme has helped me realise how deeply interconnected all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) truly are.
” Her statement underscores the importance of viewing sustainability not just through an environmental lens but also considering the social and economic dimensions that contribute to holistic development.
Throughout her journey as a Student Ambassador, Bandile has honed essential skills that have empowered her to take on leadership roles with greater confidence.
She noted that her experiences have strengthened her public speaking abilities, expanded her networking opportunities, and enhanced her capacity for social mobilisation.
“These skills are crucial for anyone looking to make a difference in their community,” she added, emphasising the programme’s role in equipping young leaders with the tools needed to effect change.
The UNDP Student Ambassadors Programme aims to inspire and mobilise youth around the world, encouraging them to engage with the SDGs and become advocates for sustainable development in their communities.
