Boasting the physique of a striker, Mbabane Highlanders AM FC forward Msimisi Zwane may soon be lost.
South Africa’s (SA) second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship is calling. The Black Bull (Highlanders AM) 12-goal forward last season had been making rave reviews in SA during their month-long preseason camp, giving defenders nightmares as they played a series of friendlies, including Midlands Wanderers, and is attracting interest from some of their elite and the second-tier outfit Midlands.
“Our top goalscorer last season, Msimisi Zwane, is still with us. We are aware you may have read stories he was wanted by some SA teams, but it’s only Midlands Wanderers we are waiting for now. He was also wanted in Zimbabwe but for trials, to which we said no,” Highlanders AM General Manager (GM) Richard Makhoba told hundreds of their supporters at the Prince of Wales Stadium last Saturday.
This was during the club’s Homecoming Party where two cows had been slaughtered. Makhoba made the revelations as he introduced the squad.
“How can you want to trial our asset, our top goalscorer? No, we couldn’t allow that,” he said, and the supporters reacted with a huge round of applause.
It was also made clear the forward will not go for peanuts, but a reasonable offer should Wanderers come for him. Makhoba said they were more than happy to have Zwane as they gunned for a trophy or two this season. The striker was signed from Ezulwini United last season.
Furthermore, the back-to-black-and-white capital city giant club announced it was far from done with new signings. Nine new players were unveiled on Saturday.
These include an experienced former Betway Premiership right back, Sabelo Shezi. He played for President Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize’s now defunct Royal AM.
Shezi reunites with three of his then Royal AM teammates, including crowd favourite Sphiwe Cele.
