Benson Mhlongo, ‘Sly’ for Bucs hot seat

. . . The latter is said to be leading the race ahead of Ghanaian Christopher Ennin and Mhlongo.

Casting their net wide – that is Moneni Pirates, who are looking to fill their vacant coaching job.

The Sea Robbers of Moneni parted ways with Matthews ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mandlazi at the end of last season and did not renew his contract. Two top names were recently linked, and these are former Mbabane Highlanders’South African gaffer Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala and Ghanaian Christopher Ennin.

As the search continues, sources close to the team have claimed there was a third name.

“We have Sly and Benson Mhlongo from SA, and if all goes well, it could be one of the two. As much as Mhlongo is an option, the team management has been given the green light to negotiate with Mosala,” said a source.

It was established that the management believes in Mosala since he has worked in Eswatini with the required documentation. With no contract tying him down with Highlanders, the South African coach could land a job at Moneni Pirates, but he has competition from former Orlando Pirates star Benson Mhlongo, who retired to become a coach at Pirates and TS Sporting. Mhlongo worked for Cape Town Spurs last season as Ernst Middendorp’s assistant.

“We continue our search for a coach, but I can tell you that Sly is the president’s preferred choice because he has the documents wanted by the EFA Technical Director’s office. We’ve already got the green light to talk to Sly, while there’s also Benson Mhlongo as another name in the search bag,” said a source close to the team.

Moneni’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Meluleki ‘Sluga’ Simelane declined to commit himself, referring the matter to the club president, Thulani Xaba.
The latter also referred it to the team’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Hlanze.

“We are still searching. We will update after shortlisting. There are coaches that we are still talking to,” responded Hlanze.

He would not go into names, nor deny the mentioned ones.
