Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has sought to deepen Eswatini’s understanding of capital markets after visiting the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) in Taipei.
The visit formed part of the Prime Minister’s official engagements in Taiwan and focused on learning from the development of one of the world’s leading stock exchange markets.
During the engagement, Dlamini outlined Eswatini’s national development agenda and His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision of transforming the Kingdom into a developed nation. 
He said a vibrant and successful stock exchange could play an important role in accelerating that vision by attracting domestic and international investors, increasing access to capital and creating more investment opportunities for businesses and citizens.
The Prime Minister and his delegation were also interested in understanding how Taiwan had cultivated a strong investment culture among its citizens, resulting in broad public participation in the country’s capital markets.
TWSE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sherman Lin welcomed the Eswatini delegation and highlighted the existing partnership between the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Eswatini Stock Exchange.
The relationship was formalised through two Memorandums of Understanding signed in 2024, providing a framework for cooperation, knowledge sharing, capacity building and institutional exchanges.
Lin and his team presented the TWSE’s development journey, outlining market reforms and strategies that have contributed to the exchange’s growth and international standing.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange is currently the world’s fifth-largest equity market, with a market capitalisation of approximately US$5.15 trillion.
It records average daily trading of about US$32.4 billion, while foreign investors account for 48.6 per cent of total market holdings.
Dlamini was accompanied by Minister for Labour and Social Security Phila Buthelezi, representing the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation;
Minister for Natural Resources and Energy HRH Prince Lonkhokhela; and Minister for Economic Planning and Development Dr Thambo Gina.
