Comitis: It was a decent number

Immediately after their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship league Cape Town City are believed ti have offered three of their young players to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Cape Town City owner John Comitis said that the players they offered to Sundowns were Emile Witbooi, Jaedin Rhodes and Under 20 national team striker Jaedin Rhodes.
In an exclusive interview with Eswatini Daily News Comitis said that they offered the players to Sundowns because they wants to raise money to buy a PSL franchise and remain in the Betway Premiership League which eventually didn’t happen.
“We are clearly focused on that we want to be in the top three and have a chance to be back in the PSL. That is what our ambitions is.
We didn’t start really well in terms of results but the team is playing really good football. The coaches have been working at having the team play proper because we need to have the foundation solid.
We are expecting to turn things around in the next game and going forward. The next five games will be the turning phase. After that I will be able to make a better assessment.
We just wanted to have the players, we definitely have the quality to perform in this league,” Comitis told Eswatini Daily News.
Meanwhile Comitis said that they offered Mamelodi Sundowns three players in Jaedin Rhodes, Emily Witbooi and Jody Ah Shene because they wanted to raise money to buy a franchise in the PSL and they were about three to four teams which were potential sellers.
“We were trying to bring funds to the club so that we can a buy a franchise. Unfortunately no one was wiling to sell to us so we had to roll up our sleeves for the long road.
We were unfortunate as a club to be where we are and I think all things being equal I think we were also unfortunate in the boardroom with the extra game that was played after the season ended.
That wasn’t fair play and I stick by that and everyone knows. We were looking to regain our status and it was a quick solution. It didn’t happen but Sundowns are still pursuing Jody (Ah Shene).
I think the World Cup distracted Jody because he wanted to go to the World Cup first and we will wait for him to get back. I think it was too much in his head the pressure was high so Iet him go and do well at the World Cup and we will regroup when he gets back,” Comitis observed.
Asked if there would still be a deal between Ah Shene and Sundowns in January Comitis could not comit to that.
“I’m not sure because it will depend on Sundowns. We will wait and see. We are happy to have him back if he comes back and we will work on Jody (Ah Shene),” Comitis said.
About the offer for the the said R60m that was reported to be for the three players to Sundowns Comitis didn’t want to deny nor confirm.
“It was certainly a decent number,” he said briefly.
City are currently on 14th position on the log in the Motsepe Foundation Championship league with three points from the five games played with three draws and two loses.
