Liverpool’s 3–0 Defeat: A Deepening Crisis at Anfield

Liverpool suffered a heavy 0–3 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on 22 November 2025, a result that highlighted major problems across the team. The match took place at Anfield and marked one of the club’s most damaging home results in recent Premier League history. Nottingham Forest opened the scoring through Murillo, before Nicolò Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White sealed the victory. Despite having early possession and creating chances, Liverpool failed to capitalise, allowing Forest to take control of the game.

A major concern was Liverpool’s defensive performance, which appeared disjointed and error-filled. The team struggled during set-pieces and transitions, conceding from a corner and being punished on fast breaks. This result was particularly significant as it became Liverpool’s biggest home defeat since their 4-1 loss to Manchester City in 2021. Defensive lapses and a lack of organisation continue to cost the side valuable points.

Offensively, Liverpool also lacked sharpness. While they enjoyed periods of possession and forward movement, the lack of clinical finishing was evident. New signing Alexander Isak had a difficult outing, registering only 14 touches and no shots on target. His performance added to growing scrutiny, as he became the first Liverpool player in Premier League history to lose his first four starts.

The defeat forms part of a broader decline in form. Liverpool have now lost six of their last seven Premier League matches and find themselves 11th in the table, far below expectations for a club that invested heavily in the summer transfer window. Instead of improving cohesion and competitiveness, the squad changes appear to have disrupted rhythm and confidence.

Following the match, head coach Arne Slot accepted responsibility for the poor result, describing it as unacceptable. He faces mounting pressure to address tactical issues, improve finishing, and restore defensive structure. With the season rapidly slipping away, Liverpool need a strong response in upcoming fixtures if they are to turn their campaign back in the right direction.
