Royal Airways Tchad to Launch First International Route, Connecting N’Djamena and Douala

Spread

A new chapter in Central African aviation is set to begin as Royal Airways Tchad, a private carrier based in N’Djamena, prepares to launch its first international service. Starting September 15, 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights between N’Djamena (Chad) and Douala (Cameroon), challenging the long-standing dominance of CAMAIR-CO and ASKY Airlines on this vital corridor.

The move marks a milestone for Chad’s aviation sector, positioning Royal Airways as the only Chadian carrier currently offering scheduled international flights. The N’Djamena–Douala route, known for its strong mix of business, humanitarian, and diaspora traffic, will benefit from increased competition, offering travelers more frequency, competitive pricing, and improved service standards.

For years, passengers between Chad and Cameroon have faced limited options, often at higher fares. Royal Airways’ entry promises to reshape the market, potentially spurring existing carriers to revisit their pricing strategies, upgrade fleets, and enhance service delivery. The launch also supports job creation and skills development across Chad’s aviation ecosystem, from flight crews and maintenance technicians to customer service and marketing professionals.

Douala, Cameroon’s economic hub and one of Central Africa’s busiest ports, is a logical choice for the inaugural international route. By providing direct, reliable links, Royal Airways aims to serve business travelers, NGOs, government delegations, and families seeking more convenient and cost-effective travel between the two nations.

The airline’s debut on the international stage reflects broader trends in African aviation, where private carriers are increasingly stepping in to expand connectivity and challenge entrenched monopolies. Industry observers see potential for Royal Airways to pursue interline or code-share partnerships in the future, further improving regional and international connectivity.

September’s inaugural flight will be closely watched by policymakers, travelers, and competitors alike. With its entry into international operations, Royal Airways is positioning itself as a new force in Central African aviation—bringing greater choice, stronger regional integration, and a glimpse into a more connected future for African air travel.
