Brighton 2-2 Tottenham: Spurs battle back from 2-0 down as Van Hecke own goal earns draw
Tottenham battled back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw at Brighton, with Jan Paul van Hecke’s late own goal completing the comeback.
Brighton looked in control early on, racing into a two-goal lead within 31 minutes. Yankuba Minteh struck first in the eighth minute, rounding Guglielmo Vicario before slotting calmly into the net. Yasin Ayari then doubled the hosts’ advantage with a long-range effort that left the Spurs goalkeeper frustrated.

Richarlison gave the visitors a lifeline before half-time, pouncing from close range to halve the deficit. Spurs carried that momentum into the second half, with substitute Xavi Simons twice going close – Bart Verbruggen saving well before the midfielder dragged an effort wide.
The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute when Mohammed Kudus’ cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Van Hecke, sparking celebrations in the away end. Kudus almost won it in stoppage time, but Tottenham were forced to settle for a point.
The result lifts Ange Postecoglou’s side above Arsenal into second place in the Premier League. However, the Gunners can reclaim the spot when they face Manchester City on Sunday
