Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu has said he hasn’t completely given up on returning back to the national team Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos.

The AmaZulu FC midfielder said that he is looking forward to an injury free season at AmaZulu which could help him return back to the national team.

Talking to journalists after the launch of the Carling Knockout at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday morning Zungu said that he has seen in the past that the coach can change his mind as he has done with other players before.

“Obviously, to get there, the competition is tight as there are other midfielders at Bafana doing well so I have to be mentally prepared and mentally fit to try and win coach Broos’ trust. And it is possible, you never know. It is football. Things happen,” Zungu observed.

Meanwhile talking about AmaZulu FC this season the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder said that they are giving credit to coach Arthur Zwane for the work he is doing at the club.

“Credit to coach Arthur because it is not easy to have a lot of players released in the team and starting afresh. He is doing a very good job and has a background of working with young players.

We are in the right track and it is important that we try and get silverware for the club this season. One of the reasons why I joined AmaZulu is the mental state and being happy. I’m at a club where I’m happy and I’m looking towards working hard for the team.

I’m in an environment where I can do all of that as long as I work hard and stay fit I can do anything. I hope for an injury free season so I can help my team achieve more.

Hopefully being selected for Bafana because playing for Bafana has been something that I enjoy,” Zungu concluded.

AmaZulu FC are currently in position six on the log table with 11 points from the six games they have played so far. Their next game is against TS Galaxy on Wednesday at Mbombela Stadium from 19h30.
